There are certain expectations that come with growing a vegetable garden, like preserving what I have grown. There is so much produce for us to eat on a daily basis that it becomes inevitable that I must somehow preserve these fruits and vegetables for later and so therefore I can. I only started last year and only did salsa and freezer jam. This year I have to do a lot more. I did tomatoes which after reading the instructions over about 20 times was pretty simple. It's funny to me that learning and doing one thing leads us to learn and do other things.

Good for you! I need to can. Badly. I have tomatoes coming out of my ears.
Good for you Jewels! I canned for my first time last year and found it to be very rewarding. I think I might do peaches and tomatoes again this year. You are so funny -- reading the directions 20 times. Ha! That is exactly how I feel.
Oh, get ready, Honey. Every year gets bigger and brighter! Your bottles take on the glimmer and desirability of jewels (take the pun, if you want,) and you think home-bottled goods are home decor. Soon, everything you look at makes you wonder if it's "put-upable." I made corn-cob jelly this year!!!
Canning has become a family tradition at our house. It's nice to have someone there to help you cut up all the veggies and remind you what you've forgotten to add to your recipe.
