Socks, colds and thrift store finds

I have a cold and I'm running low on my favorite cold relieving oils, just put in another order today and hope they come soon. It's been lots of warm lemon and honey and lots of water for me.  This cold started with Jon, then went to Eme and now I get to have it.  Thank goodness for the humidifier which has passed from room to room in this house. But having a cold, as miserable as it may be is one good excuse to just plop myself down on the couch and do some knitting.  This sock is the tiniest sock I have ever made, I love it. It is helping me get my brain wrapped around the fact that there will be a new member of our family coming in June.

I found a new baby doctor and had my first appointment with him yesterday.  I feel very comfortable with him, he talks super fast, but is very nice. His office has a hometown feel, no computers in the examination room, just a basic ultrasound machine and the examination tables are low to the ground. He was able to see what we are having, but to be double sure I will have to drive up to San Jose for the specialized ultrasound.

I am not very impressed at all with the local Goodwill stores or the Salvation Army around here.  I haven't checked the prices on clothing, but with all their furniture and other items, the prices are crazy and not a very big selection of items.  $500.00 for a cupboard, $250.00 for a desk and $23.00 for a broken piece of furniture?! No way, I might as well start buying new cause that is just ridiculous.  So the hunt is on for a really good thrift store.  But I did find these which were $2.50 a piece.  They will be put to good use once I get some shelving put up in the kitchen.

The first week

The first week we were here I thought we just might strangle each other. The moving company had still not arrived with our beds and furniture so it was sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags and whatever pillows and blankets we brought with us.  It was not good. Bad sleep makes for very grumpy family members.  Thank goodness for the local library where we were able to check out movies and books and DS games and the free beach just over the hill. We were so thrilled when our stuff finally did arrive and we could get a really good night's rest, it was heavenly.

Unpacking is tiresome, but it is nice to have our things back, most of our stuff has been in storage for a few months now.  I found my knitting supplies and the socks I almost finished for Emeline which I had started back in June.  All done now.  I'm on to the next project, which of course are a pair of socks for this little coming in June.

The yoga mat is out and ready to be used again, I think I just may put in that video and finally do a little exercise today, then do so more unpacking and take a trip to the other town's local Goodwill.

One Cloudy Day

We did it, we made it, we survived it. Moving. It is the worst thing you could ever make a person of habit and order and consistency do.  I hate not knowing where things are, I hate unfamiliar areas, and I have hard time meeting new people.

The road trip out here to California was great. No problems whatsoever, it was just a lot of driving and driving in the dark on the first day.  We stayed the night in Nevada in a resort with comfy beds and even a king size bed for me and the Mr. Then we drove the rest of the way to our new place the next day.  The roads were very clear, even over the pass.

We now live in the Ousley Houseley, in the land of garlic. The kids are adjusting well and they seem to like the house, I'm sure we will enjoy it more once we find a place for everything.
We brought a lot of our stuff, but not enough furniture to put it in. (excuse to do some antique/thrift store shopping.)

The weather here has been very consistent. There's really no reason to watch the weather report. The temperature only changes a few degrees throughout the week.   There has only been one cloudy day and I thought, sweet, now I can wear some of the cool weather sweaters I brought, but no, the temperature was still warm. Oh well. I guess it will help my need for consistency in a strange new place.
